Brisbane has a new world-class performance venue, the Glasshouse Theatre. On 7 March, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) will unveil its brand-new 1500 seat theatre designed for performances and community events. QPAC’s fifth and newest venue, Glasshouse Theatre will host world-class touring productions and companies from late March. It is expected to boost QPAC’s annual visitation by 300,000, bringing total attendance to 1.6 million each year. Glasshouse Theatre is the latest project completed in a massive infrastructure overhaul as Brisbane prepares for the 2032 Olympics.
With the passing of heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne last year, it has been announced that his namesake festival OzzFest will return in 2027 under the guidance of his wife Sharon Osbourne. Speaking on their podcast ‘The Osbournes’, Sharon revealed to son Jack that she plans to resurrect OzzFest in Ozzy’s hometown of Birmingham before taking it to the US. OzzFest is planned to relaunch with a two-day event at Villa Park, the home ground of Aston Villa Football Club and the site of Ozzy’s final live show. Sharon has also out the call out for bands that want to be on the bill, honouring Ozzy’s legacy.
The Ticketmaster trial has begun in the US, with Ticketmaster and parent company Live Nation accused of “abusing their market power to prop up illegal monopolies in the concert industry.” It was revealed Ticketmaster keeps average of $7.58 per ticket for shows at major concert venues.
“Today, the concert ticket industry is broken, in fact the concert industry itself is broken,” Department of Justice attorney David Dahlquist told jurors in his opening statement. “It is controlled by a monopolist. It is controlled by Live Nation.” The DoJ and attorney-generals of New York and 38 other states plus Washington DC claim the conglomerate dominates live-event markets in a way that hurts artists, venues, and consumers. The DoJ could seek the break-up of Ticketmaster and Live Nation. The trial continues.
Paramount Skydance has acquired Warner Brothers Discovery in a $110 billion takeover that will fold their streaming services, including Paramount+ and HBO Max, into a single platform. The deal comes after months of Paramount and Netflix trading rival bids, Paramount securing the merger with a $31-per-share offer.
The trailer for ‘Scary Movie 6’ has dropped, sending fans of the $1.2bn franchise into a frenzy. The latest instalment of the horror-parody series sees the Wayans brothers, who created the original two films before being pushed out by the Weinsteins, back in charge. Marlon Wayans has promised that no joke is off-limits, and judging by the trailer, ‘Scary Movie 6’ won’t pull any punches. ‘Scary Movie 6’ is in Australian cinemas 11 June.
Star of ‘Evil Dead’ Bruce Campbell shared the sad news he has been diagnosed with a treatable but incurable cancer. “Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that – I’m having one of those,” he posted on X.
“It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable’. I apologise if that’s a shock – it was to me too.”
Campbell announced he will be pausing work commitments and public appearances to focus on his health and treatment. A beloved film and television actor, Bruce Campbell achieved cult status portraying Ash in Sam Raimi’s ‘Evil Dead’ films and subsequent TV series. Campbell did not divulge any further details about his illness.
Iconic rockers Guns ‘N’ Roses have confirmed an expansion to their Australian visit this year as part of their world tour. Following last month’s announcement that Gunners would be the Sunday headliners at the Supercar Championships in Adelaide, they will also perform stadium shows in Townsville, Brisbane, Newcastle, Melbourne and Sydney this December.
With the sad passing of founding KISS guitarist Ace Frehley late last year, members of Ace Frehley’s Solo Band have announced an Australian tribute tour in September. Philip Shouse, Ryan Spencer Cook, Jeremy Asbrock, and Christopher Williams were handpicked by Ace for his Australian tour in 2018. They reunite to honour the late legend with powerful shows featuring Ace’s solo material and his work with KISS.

This August, Tasmania’s finest export, extreme metal pioneers, Psycroptic join like-minded-and-saxophone-wielding US progressive death wizards Rivers of Nihil for a co-headline tour that brings together two elite bands operating at the highest tier of modern death metal. Joining them on all dates are Melbourne’s psychologically charged Growth who are on the eve of releasing part two of their highly anticipated album trilogy, ‘Under The Under’, and Sydney’s uncompromisingly brutal, Slaughtercult, rounding out a bill that is equal parts precision, atmosphere and outright savagery. The tour hits Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.
