This week in entertainment news brings more chaos and upheaval for Brisbane radio, another debate about ticket prices, and another round of new music and upcoming tours.
Billionaire and Sydney pub baron Arthur Laundy has paid a whopping $56m to acquire Nine’s talkback radio stations. As part of a major restructure of the company’s media holdings, ownership of stations 4BC, 2GB, 3AW, and 6PR to the Laundy family.
In another surprise move, Nova has announced it is switching timeslots for two of its most popular shows. Its Sydney breakfast show, ‘Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie’, is moving to national afternoons from 9 February, with the trio hosting Nova’s national drive show from 4-6pm weekdays.
Ricki-Lee Coulter and Tim Blackwell have been moved to the early morning slot for a new breakfast show. Their former co-host Joel Creasey will remain with the station with a new project that will be announced shortly.
Harry Styles is copping serious heat from fans enraged by exorbitant ticket prices for his upcoming ‘Together, Together’ tour. Starting at $184 for general admission and topping out at $850 for coveted Disco Pit tickets, many fans can’t justify spending an entire paycheck on one concert.
Former One Direction Zayn Malik even got in a shot at his recent Las Vegas show. “I just want to say a big, big thank you to each and every single one of you for being here with me tonight,” he told the audience. “You could have been anywhere, but you decided to spend your night with me. Hopefully, the ticket prices weren’t too high. Just saying.”
CKY drummer Jess Margera cancelled $200 meet and greets on the band’s recent Australian tour. Unaware of the scheme, he refunded tickets and instead invited everyone to: “come say hello to us for free we will be hanging out”, he posted on social media. “Just buy me a beer and I’ll take a pic np.”
Pauline Hanson’s new film ‘Super Progressive Movie’ opened to sold-out sessions but not without its share of controversy. Made by Stepmates Studios, the animated satire takes aim at Australia’s cancel culture and political correctness. It’s caused plenty of complaints from people saying it unfairly parodies Indigenous and LGBT+ communities, though highly positive market reception indicates there’s a strong appetite for the film.
Megadeth nears the inevitable end with the release of their self-titled final album. Featuring four previously released singles – ‘Tipping Point’, ‘I Don’t Care’, ‘Let There Be Shred!’, and ‘Puppet Parade’ – the album has earned high praise from critics. It also features a reimagined version of ‘Ride The Lightning’, which Dave Mustaine co-wrote with Metallica’s James Hetfield, Cliff Burton, and Lars Ulrich and was the title track from the group’s 1984 album. Megadeth kick off their final farewell tour in North America in February.

With Tyler HIlton and Kate Voegele’s upcoming Australian & New Zealand tour just around the corner, some very special guests have been announced – including fast-rising German singer/songwriter Nick Howard who will be joining on all Australian dates. Best known as the winner of The Voice Germany, Howard has released six studio albums and played more than 1000 shows across the globe.
Fans heading along to the Melbourne shows will also get the chance to see Canadian-born, Australia based singer- songwriter Laura Lucas on the lineup, while fans at the Perth show will be able to catch alt-folk artist Veruca Moon.
And there’s plenty of time for fans of synthpop pioneers Human League to save up for the band’s upcoming Australian tour in 2027. Next January and February, founding members Philip Oakey, Joanne Catherall, and Susan Ann Sulley perform classics like ‘Don’t You Want Me’, ‘Human’ and ‘(Keep Feeling) Fascination’ as part of the band’s ‘Generations Greatest Hits’ tour.
