This week in entertainment news, the Brisbane radio wars hit breaking point, a local legend wins big on the international stage, and an overseas star gets a very Aussie welcome, plus new releases, tour news, and more.
The gloves are off, and metaphorical fists are flying in the Brisbane radio wars. Stalwart of the airwaves Ash Bradnam has announced his departure from Nova 106.9 after more than two decades on the breakfast lineup. Ash was co-host of the Ash, Luttsy and Nikki Osborne show that was ranked No. 1 in this week’s GfK Survey 7.
“I’ve had the time of my life…I’ve loved this job…and I really feel like I’ve had the full brekkie radio experience,” Ash said in a statement.
“I’ve sat in this chair every day for two decades…I’m going to miss working with you, Lutts, I love you. And to the listeners, thank you. I love radio. I’ve loved this job. I’ve absolutely love sharing my mornings with you. So, thanks very much for listening, and thank you for 20 years.”
Meanwhile, recently axed KIIS FM hosts Kip Wightman, Corey Oates, and Robin Bailey have walked off the job, two weeks before the show is officially taken off the air. Today was their last show. Wightman and Oates have announced they will be teaming up with footy legend Sam Thaiday for the Unofficial Broncos Podcast, launching in February 2026.
Australians have watched Robert Irwin grow from a wee baby being swung over the gaping maw of a crocodile into a full-fledged dancing dynamo, and we couldn’t be prouder. Robert Irwin, beloved son of renowned croc hunter and conservationist Steve Irwin, has won ‘Dancing With The Stars’ in the US with a phenomenal performance.
Irwin’s win on DWTS comes a decade after his sister Bindi achieved the top honour, creating another family dynasty for the Irwins. Robert and his partner, professional ballroom dancer Witney Carson, battled four other celebrities and their partners in the finale: influencer Alix Earle, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, actor Elaine Hendrix, and Zac Efron’s brother, Dylan Efron.
UK singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi touched down in Sydney for his Australian tour, looking every bit a local in relaxed attire. Once spotted by eagle-eyed fans, Capaldi was swarmed for photos and autographs, to which he obliged despite just getting off a long flight.

Live Nation have presented the final edition of their Ones To Watch series for 2025, spotlighting emerging Australian artists with a disability. The evening was curated by singer-songwriter and disability advocate Eliza Hull, who hosted the event and performed on the night. The show featured performances from Re.me.edy, Cooper Smith and Mathilde Anne, representing exceptional musical talent and the spectrum of disability, both seen and unseen.
Piano maestro Omar Sosa has released his new solo piano album ‘Sendas’, available now via OTA Records. ‘Sendas’ is an improvisational album recorded live at Fazioli Concert Hall in northern Italy a few years ago, at a time of great uncertainty in the world.
