US singer/songwriter and rapper Oliver Tree was killed in a helicopter collision in Brazil while on tour for his fourth album ‘Love You Madly Hate You Badly’. Tree was reported among six casualties aboard the aircraft. Oliver Tree was 32. Known for viral songs ‘Life Goes On’ and ‘Alien Boy’, Tree was scheduled to tour Australia in October.
BMG has acquired the publishing catalogue for Australian singer, songwriter, and guitarist Chris Cheney of The Living End. BMG has been the band’s global publisher since 2016 and their global label since 2018. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. It comes after The Living End were inducted in the ARIA Hall of Fame earlier in June.
The $110bn Paramount Skydance-Warner Bros Discovery merger has cleared yet another hurdle, securing approval for the deal by regulators in China. It follows getting the green light from the US Department of Justice as well as Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, and Saudi Arabia.
Television personality Jeremy Clarkson revealed he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The former ‘Top Gear’ host broke the news on an episode of his show ‘Clarkson’ Farm’ filmed shortly before undergoing surgery. Clarkson has since reported the treatment has not gone as well as expected and he is unsure whether he will survive to film a sixth season of his show.
It’s official, Faith No More are returning to international touring, with bassist Billy Gould confirming the band will be back on the road early next year. It’s the first time Faith No More have performed together since 2016. They had booked live shows for 2020 that had to be postponed due to COVID, and the rescheduled 2021 dates were cancelled because frontman Mike Patton reported he had been diagnosed with agoraphobia. Gould says the band will definitely be heading to Europe, South America, and Australia. Faith No More were last here in 2015 for Soundwave but haven’t played an Australian headline tour since 1997.
Aussie rock legends Hoodoo Gurus are celebrating their 45th anniversary with the national ‘Hoodoo Gurus Rewind Tour – All Killer, No Filler’ in November/December. Often described as a ‘singles’ band, Hoodoo Gurus are doing just that and playing nothing but their biggest singles from throughout their career. Audiences can expect wall-to-wall pub rock classics such as ‘What’s My Scene’, ‘Like Wow – Wipeout’, and ‘Bittersweet’ as well as some early cult favourites.
‘80s pub rock icons Australian Crawl and Men At Work have been announced to headline this year’s Red Hot Summer tour in October and November. It will be the first live performance for the bands in 40 years and 25 years, respectively. They are joined by Birds of Tokyo, Vika and Linda, Eskimo Joe, Boom Crash Opera and Ella Hooper.
Melbourne-based artist Sasha Summers has released her sophomore single Belladonna (This Is How You Die).
