Dynamic hip hop firebrand J-Milla unleashes his strongest material to-date with new single ‘On My Soul’.
‘On My Soul’ is a confident step forward for one of Aussie hip hop’s most exciting breakthrough artists, showcasing J-Milla’s versatility as a vocalist and lyricist.
“I’m really pleased with ‘On My Soul’, it shows my deeper side, my lyrical side – adds depth to my range, so while I still love the club bangers, I always will have room in my set for the more dramatic moments and this is one of them,” J-Milla says.
“It tells a snippet of the story of my life, from where I started to where I am now and how my values have changed and evolved. It speaks of the importance of being authentic and having integrity because everything you do imprints your soul and you wear that stuff, that energy, so I want my energy to shine with good vibes.”
The song was recorded in Adelaide with Nick Wales composing the string arrangement, which is performed by Wales and violinist Veronique Serret.
‘On My Soul’ is another accomplishment in what has been a massive year for J-Milla so far, including his historic performance on Wadeye during Reconciliation Week 2023, the first of its kind to be live streamed via TikTok.
A proud member of the Mak Mak Marranungu people in the Northern Territory, J-Milla also performed on the First Nations triple j Unearthed stage as part of his sensational BIGSOUND showcase.
J-Milla has established himself as a promising and influential new voice of Australian hip hop, with ‘On My Soul’ being just a taste of what is still to come.
