New Music: Mid City Release Debut Album ‘Happy Ever After’
Melbourne indie racket Mid City have dropped their eagerly awaited debut full-length album ‘Happy Ever After’.
Driven by impeccable rhythms and laced with soaring melodies, all bolstered by Joel Griffith’s impassioned vocals, ‘Happy Ever After’ brings together all the euphoria and chaos of the band’s experiences on the road over the past few years.
Material for the 11-song album was largely drawn from Mid City’s European travels, making ‘Happy Ever After’ the perfect depiction of how the band have defined their sound and songwriting.
“Touring in Europe really informed what we wanted; playing some great festival stages and watching people react – or not – to the things we thought were important in creating the perfect hard hitting banger,” the band says.
“What was surprising though, was the quieter side we found on some songs. We always wanted the album to be a little journey, not just a 170 bpm sweat fest, but we didn’t realise how satisfying it would be to create some songs with different tempos and feels. We’re really proud of the balance we found between bangers and more heartfelt quieter moments.”
The album features already released singles ‘Change Your Mind’, ‘Emily’, ‘Compromise’ and ‘Choc Mint’ among a striking playlist of new tracks thriving with the raw emotional energy for which Mid City are known.
‘Happy Ever After’ marks a new creative phase for Mid City, which includes their return to touring in Europe and the UK.
