BIGSOUND 2024

Australia’s biggest music conference BIGSOUND returns to Brisbane in September for its 23rd edition.

Each year, BIGSOUND brings together musicians, tastemakers and renowned music industry professionals from Australia and all over the world for a four-day gathering that takes over Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley.

A launchpad for a swag full of popular Australian acts, BIGSOUND is the place to discover your next favourite artists with live showcases from 120+ acts across 17 venues. The 2024 line-up features performers from every state and territory as well a spotlight on First Nations talent, such as Maanyung, Ray Dimakarri Dixon and Kiwat Kennell among others.

Artists showcasing include Stand Atlantic, Miiesha, JUNO, Keli Holiday, Sly Withers, Alex the Astronaut, Peking Duk’s Keli Holiday and Y.O.G.A with their solo project, and many more.

The conference portion is headlined this year by two keynote speakers: artist, songwriter and producer Tones and I presents her own Keynote In-Conversation with ABC presenter and personality Myf Warhurst.

Garrwa and Butchulla songman Fred Leone will be delivering a Keynote about the importance of honouring his role as a custodian of the traditional songs of the Butchulla tribe and how it intersects with his contemporary music career.

The BIGSOUND conference lineup includes the likes of international powerhouse Kelis, Amy Taylor (Amyl and The Sniffers), Lutz Leichsenring (VibeLab), Lyndsey Havens (Billboard US), Josh Simons (Vinyl Group & Vampr) and Mark Davyd (Music Venue Trust).

That’s just a taste of the full BIGSOUND 2024 showcase and conference schedule, which can be viewed here.

An initiative of QMusic, it will be interesting to observe how BIGSOUND plays out this year in the aftermath of a recent upheaval in QMusic’s leadership. In July, President Natalie Strijland and Vice-President D-J Wendt resigned without notice following controversy over how the organisation awards lucrative media contracts, replaced by existing board members Vivienne Mellish and John Collins.

BIGSOUND is on 3-5 September in Brisbane.

‘Become What You Are’, the new album from The Daisycutters is available now via MADCAP Global Music, JB Hi-Fi and independent music retailers.
