Sport: Brisbane Sets Its Sights On A Double Grand Final Win

It’s a great time to be a Brisbane football fan as both the Broncos and the Lions vie for grand final glory this weekend.

As the NRL and AFL seasons draw to a close, Brisbane has the rare and historic opportunity to seal not one but two grand final victories.

The Broncos earned their place with a 42-12 victory over the Warriors, while Brisbane Lions defeated Carlton 79-63 in their preliminary finals.

The Brisbane Lions face Collingwood in the AFL Grand Final on Saturday 30 September at the hallowed grounds of the MCG, and it’s Broncos versus Penrith Panthers in the NRL Grand Final 2023 on Sunday 1 October at Accor Stadium.

Both teams have worked incredibly hard over this past season and many before it to reach this point. For supporters, it’s been understandably heart-wrenching watching their beloved teams miss out on the top spot year after year.

It’s a tremendous turnaround for the Brisbane Broncos, who just three years ago were branded with their first-ever wooden spoon. Meanwhile, the Brisbane Lions haven’t brought home the premiership since 2003, despite some admirable efforts.

But that’s what being a fan is all about – weathering the bad times to revel in those golden moments of glory like one of the team. Brisbanites have a notorious zeal for their football teams regardless of the code, and if either team wins this weekend, it will be undoubtedly celebrated citywide.
