Blink-182 Return To Australia In 2024
Get ready to take off your pants and jacket as Blink-182 announce a massive reunion tour that includes Australian arena shows in February 2024.
Blink-182 are back together in their classic line-up of Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge, with Tom finally rejoining after nearly ten years away from the band.
The Blink-182 reunion tour reaches Australia in February 2024 with shows planned for Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
In extra-good news for Blink fans, the band will release a brand-new single ‘Edging’ on 14 October ahead of a new album said to be in the works.
Blink-182 manifested huge success in the ‘90s with a volatile blend of breakneck pop punk, adolescent humour and questionable stage antics that made them ratbag darlings of the West Coast punk scene.
The band released their debut album ‘Cheshire Cat’ in 1995 but came to mainstream prominence on the back the single ‘Dammit’ from their 1997 sophomore album ‘Dude Ranch’.
Original drummer Scott Raynor was dismissed from the band in 1998 under a pall of personal issues, replaced by Travis Barker who remains in the seat to this day.
Their popularity only skyrocketed when they released third album ‘Enema Of the State’ in 1999 featuring the singles ‘What’s My Age Again’, ‘All The Small Things’ and ‘Adam’s Song’, all of which enjoyed heavy airplay on Australian radio and remain some of their best-known work.
By 2005, years of relentless touring and recording had taken its toll and Blink-182 entered an indefinite hiatus during which members pursued other interests and side projects away from one another.
Tragedy struck in 2008 when Travis and his friend Adam Goldstein were the only two survivors of a plane crash that killed four other people, leaving Barker with severe injuries and prompting the trio to reform in 2009.
Blink-182 returned to touring and recording between 2009-2014, though it proved to be a stressful and tenuous reunion period that resulted in Tom’s ostensible final departure from the group.
After leaving, Tom pursued his otherworldly passion of Ufology and co-founded the company To the Stars… Academy of Arts & Sciences. Following a spiteful legal battle, Mark and Travis were able to continue as Blink 182 with Matt Skiba replacing Tom.
Then, just like in 2008, a brush with mortality brought Mark, Tom and Travis back together. In mid-2021, Mark revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment.
It was the motivation they needed to resolve past grievances and consider the future of Blink-182. And the future looks good for both the band as fans, as Blink-182 set out to prove to that although you inevitably grow old, you never really have to grow up.
