Cancellations, comebacks, concert tours and a stack of new music for your weekend await in this edition of This Week In Music.
This week in music news, Spilt Milk Festival has announced the cancellation of US hip hop artist D4VD (pronounced David) in light of his involvement in a criminal investigation in Los Angeles. Earlier in September, the remains of a missing teenage girl were discovered in a Tesla registered in D4VD’s real name David Anthony Burke.
The body was identified as 15 year-old Celeste Rivas, who had been missing for more than a year. Police have not identified a suspect in Rivas’ death and David is said to be cooperating with the investigation. Nevertheless, he will no longer be performing at Spilt Milk, and his headline shows in December have also been cancelled.
After a career-ending gaffe in February, comedian Marty Sheargold makes a long-awaited return to the live comedy circuit with his new show ‘The Red Card Tour’. Marty lost his job as a presenter on radio station Triple M when he made a disparaging comment about the Australian women’s soccer team the Matildas. Following the Matildas’ 2-1 loss to the USA in the SheBelieves Cup and a shocking 4-0 defeat by Japan, Marty offered some controversial on-air opinions. His remarks were deemed as sexist and cost Marty his radio gig.
But now he’s back from the sin bin and of the title of his show is anything to go by, Marty hasn’t lost any of his candour. “As much as I’ve been trying to embrace early retirement – I’m bored shitless so I’m going to be the 54-year-old man that I am,’ Sheargold said in the tour announcement. “Fun, sexy, charming and humble. Let’s share moments and memories from my life.” Marty brings ‘The Red Card Tour’ to venues across the country from December.
More international artists have also announced upcoming Australian tours, including genre-hopping bad boy MGK (Machine Gun Kelly) is popping Down Under with his highly anticipated ‘Lost Americana Tour’ in April next year. The tour is in support of his seventh and latest studio album ‘Lost Americana’, described as a personal excavation of the American dream. MGK plays RAC Arena in Perth 8 April, Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne 11 April, Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney 14 April and Brisbane Entertainment Centre 16 April.
Iconic hip hop crew Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are back together with all five original members and will be coming to Australia for three massive shows in May next year. The original show dates for this October were pushed back to allow the crew to put the final touches on their new studio album, featuring new single ‘AWW SHIT’. Known for classic anthem ‘Tha Crossroads’, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony bring their signature sound to Riverstage in Brisbane 10 May, Hordern Pavilion in Sydney 12 May and Riviera Beach Club in Melbourne 13 May.
Pop queen Lady Gaga performs the Australian leg of her glamorous ‘The MAYHEM Ball’ tour in December. ‘The MAYHEM Ball’ is Lady Gaga’s eight concert production and is support of her latest album ‘Mayhem’. It is the first time Lady Gaga has toured Australia since her ‘ArtRave: The ARTPOP Ball’ shows in 2014. New dates have been added due to overwhelming demand. Check ticket sites for details.

Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall will be back in Australia having recently supported Train on their tour. KT is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her debut album ‘Eye To The Telescope, performing with her full band at Astor Theatre in Perth 19 May, The Princess Theatre in Brisbane 22 May, Metro Theatre in Sydney 23 May, Northcote Theatre in Melbourne 24 May and The Gov in Adelaide 27 May. KT Tunstall is also releasing a special 20th anniversary edition of ‘Eye To The Telescope’.
Topping off the week, there’s new releases from pop diva Mariah Carey has released her first new album in seven years ‘Here For It All’. The songbird supreme says she is entering “the era of me” with her new album. Irish bard David Keenan has announced his new studio album ‘Modern Mythologies’ will be released on 21 November. The record features 12 songs all written by David, including recent singles ‘Poison Water’, ’50 Quid Man’ and ‘Amelioration’. South Coast indie locals Cheeky Leash have dropped a new single ‘Change’ along with a video. It comes amid the band embarking on a 13 date Australian tour and supporting South Summit on their upcoming Australian shows.
