This week in music news takes us from car crashes and court dates to tour cancellations and a beloved musician calling it quits, plus news music releases and upcoming tours.
We start this edition with the news of KISS bassist Gene Simmons being involved in a car crash in Malibu. The 76 year-old rocker was hospitalised after a ‘medical emergency’ in which he passed out while driving his SUV, colliding with a parked car. Gene Simmons’ wife Shannon reported he was recovering at home.
It follows Simmons’ former bandmate and original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley cancelling the remainder of his 2025 tour dates after suffering a fall earlier in the year. Lead singer of KISS Paul Stanley has also endured serious medical issues in recent years affecting his vocal performance. Despite the setbacks, KISS is still scheduled to appear at the KISS Kruise: Land-Locked in Vegas event in November.
Did Diddy do it? Turns out, Diddy did do it, earning the disgraced artist a 50-month prison sentence for prostitution-related convictions. The high profile trial of Sean ‘P Diddy’ Combs has reached its conclusion after months of deliberations, media coverage, and rumours. Combs was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage prostitution; he was sentenced to four years and two months and must also pay a $500,000 fine.

Once one of the biggest names in hip hop, Combs suffered a crippling fall from grace when revelations of what really happens at his infamous ‘white’ parties came to light, smearing his reputation in a thick layer of baby oil. Combs was previously acquitted by a federal court of the most serious charges in his case involving racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
Australian Oasis fans may have a bone to pick when the band’s reunion tour hits our shores in November. Oasis guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs has sadly announced he won’t be able to participate in the Australian leg of the tour due to ongoing treatment for prostate cancer. Paul revealed his diagnosis earlier in the year and played for shows in UK, Ireland, Canada, the US, and Mexico.
“I am having to take a planned break for the next phase of my care, so I’ll be missing the gigs in Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Sydney,” Paul posted on X.
“I’m really sad to be missing these shows, but I’m feeling good and will be back ready to go in time for South America. Have an amazing time if you’re going this month and I’ll see you back onstage with the band in November.”
Meanwhile, an unusual injury has caused Welsh rockers Stereophonics to cancel their biggest Australian tour to date just days out from it kicking off. Lead singer Kelly Jones made the upsetting announcement on Instagram, reported he had suffered a displaced jaw joint.
“I am gutted, saddened and disappointed to inform you all, that due to a displaced jaw joint (not caused by singing folks – just one of life’s tense dizzying mysteries!) the upcoming Australia and Dubai shows are cancelled,” Jones wrote.
“I have cancelled no more than four shows in 30 years, and I hope you can trust this decision was not taken lightly.”
He reassured fans he would be on deck for the band’s UK tour in December, but that recovery and rehabilitation is the focus now.
It all sounds like bad news so far, but don’t despair because there’s plenty of new music releases to get your ears around, not to mention more tour announcements, from local and international favourites.

Echoing the hysteria that accompanied the approach of the millennium, ‘y2k’ speaks to a sense of cultural, social, and personal panic noted by the band in the world around them of late.
Pixies have announced the band is working on a new album ahead of their upcoming Australian tour in November. Pixies present two different shows in each city, playing a double-set performance of ‘Bossanova’ and ‘Trompe Le Monde’ albums played in full, and a classic Pixies set on the following night.
Grammy Award-winning indie rockers Wet Leg make a highly anticipated return to Australia with two headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne next February, in addition to their Laneway Festival performance.
