This week, we celebrate Aus Music Month, explore new releases, and recap all the juiciest tidbits from the music and entertainment industry.
We start the Aus Music Month special with the ARIA Awards, the night of nights for the Australian music industry – our equivalent of the Grammys. It was an evening of exceptional national talent, with unashamed punk phenomenon Amyl & The Sniffers taking out top honours, snaring Album Of The Year for ‘Cartoon Darkness’.
Ninajirachi scored Best Solo Artist, beating out her contemporaries in Barkaa and Mallrat as well as pop queen Kylie Minogue. Troye Sivan took home Best Australian Live Act while Amyl & The Sniffers picked up a second win with the Best Rock Album award.
Aussie rock stalwarts You Am I were finally recognised for their immense contributions to Australian music culture with their induction into the ARIA Hall Of Fame. Congratulations, lads. You deserve it.

Overseas now, and nu-metal outfit Limp Bizkit have had their planned shows in Estonia cancelled due to previous remarks made by frontman Fred Durst. Estonian officials have cited Durst’s comments about Crimea in the mid-2010s and previous support for Russia as the reason for the cancellation.
Meanwhile, Grammy Award-winning rapper of hip hop group the Fugees Pras Michel has been sentenced to 14 years prison for funnelling millions of dollars in foreign contributions to the 2012 Brack Obama re-election campaign.
The case illuminates the ties between the music and entertainment industry, and political interests that often come into conflict with one another. Michel will be appealing the sentence.

New Zealand music icon Bic Runga has dropped a brand new single, titled ‘Red Sunset’. Alongside the track, Bic has announced the release date of her much-anticipated new album, ‘Red Sunset’, as well as an Australia & Aotearoa national tour.
The Red Sunset Tour (March-April 2026) is set to kick off in Aotearoa New Zealand, before making its way to Australia, where Bic will play in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, and finally Fremantle.
Recorded in Paris during the winter of 2025, the forthcoming album will be Bic’s first collection of all-original material since 2011’s ‘Belle’, marking a radiant new chapter for one of Aotearoa’s most beloved artists. ‘Red Sunset’ will be released on Friday 13 February 2026.
Tokyo-based, Sydney-raised electronic-pop artist Joey Sachi has returned with a bright new EP titled ‘RISE’ set for release on 4 December, marking a striking new chapter in her musical career.
Having spent much of 2024 building consistently off the foundations laid the previous year, Sachi’s music has displayed a clear talent for crafting cinematic and atmospheric sonic playgrounds.
Following the release of their phenomenal second album ‘That’s Life Baby!’ earlier this year – as well as recent single ‘Suckerpunch’ – ‘Honey’ sees Foley explore the moments where you know you’ve pushed a little too hard in an argument, bringing their brand of syrupy-sweet musical goodness to the matter.
The official music video for the track was filmed in South Korea, during the band’s recent trip there for a run of shows. With stunning scenes of Seoul city and striking split timelapses which draw the viewer into Foley’s own little world– this visualiser is the perfect amplifier to the charm of ‘Honey’.
Adelaide indie-punk outfit DROPSINK; their new single ‘impressions (she said)’ is out as of just last Friday. With the band making their debut less than a year ago now, ‘impressions (she said)’ is a track which DROPSINK describes as “focusing on recovery from addiction and social anxiety, and the implications that come with these things.” Accompanying the release, DROPSINK also shared the official music video, which was directed by Ethan Shillabeer, Harry Verner and Alannah Underdown.
Legendary Canadian comedian Colin Mochrie (‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?) will be bringing the ‘HYPROV: Improv Under Hypnosis’ tour to Australian and New Zealand next year along with esteemed hypnotist Asad Mecci.
‘HYPROV’ combines hypnosis and improv for a one-of-a-kind comedy experience. The 90-minute show begins with Asad Mecci inviting 20 volunteers on stage to be hypnotized. From there, the most responsive participants join Colin Mochrie to perform the rest of the show – while still under hypnosis.
In the hands of two seasoned performers and drawn entirely from the uninhibited minds of volunteers and the audience, each performance is completely original, unpredictable, and unforgettable.
