Today is Friday the 13th and tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, so somewhere between the scary movies and flowers, make room for another instalment of This Week In Entertainment News.
Laneway Festival hit the Gold Coast for the first time ever last weekend, with music fans packing out Southport Sharks. Pop princess Chappell Roan headlined the festival, earning rave reviews for her performance despite declining a ‘shoey’. Other acts included Role Models, Pink Pantheress, Lucy Dacus and more.
Laneway was moved to the Gold Coast after the original venue, RNA Showgrounds, closed for construction for the 2032 Olympics. Some festivalgoers have complained that the site wasn’t adequate, reporting capacity, security, and traffic issues that prevented them from seeing particular artists’ sets.
Meanwhile, Chappell Roan has quit her high-profile management firm after their appeared in the Epstein files as fallout from the investigation spreads.
“As of today, I am no longer represented by Wasserman, the talent agency led by Casey Wasserman,” she wrote in statement posted to Instagram.
“I hold my teams to the highest standards and have a duty to protect them as well. No artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values.”
It is the latest in a long list of revelations about the disgraced financier that has rocked the music and entertainment industry. Roan’s exit is part of a mass exodus from Wasserman’s agency following the disclosure of his intimate relationship with Ghislaine Maxwell as well as other complaints of serious misconduct.
One person has died and six others hospitalised following a suspected mass overdose at the Dreamstate festival in Sydney over the weekend. A 40 year old man who has not yet been identified died at the scene and six people were rushed to hospital in a critical condition after suffering “medical episodes”. Health authorities are investigating the possibility of a mass overdose amid renewed calls for pill testing at music events. Dreamstate was not part of the state’s pill testing trial but is said to have implemented “harm reduction initiatives”, according to a spokesman.
It seems the end has finally come again for classic rock legends the Eagles, announcing the band will call it a day following their 2026 tour. Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning in the US, founding member Don Henley spoke about calling it a day after five decades of timeless hits and touring.
“You know, I think this year will probably be it,” Henley, 78, said.
“I’ve said things like that before, but I feel like we’re getting toward the end, and that will be fine too. Because I would like to spend more time with my family and I would like to spend more time growing vegetables and I’d like to … I’ve traveled all over the world, but I haven’t seen much of it because we see the airports and the hotel room and the venue, and we don’t get out much, you know. And so I’d like to go back to some of the same places I’ve been and see more of those places, you know, before it all disappears or it gets vaporized or whatever.”
It’s been a tough week for fans of ‘90s rock with the untimely deaths of 3 Doors Down vocalist Brad Arnold at the age of 47 and founding Cake guitarist Greg Brown at age 56. Brad Arnold passed away months after he announced he had been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer. The band said in a statement that he passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by loved ones. The band’s biggest hit ‘Kryptonite’ was written by Arnold during math class when he was 15. Greg Brown formed Cake in Sacramento in 1995 and was an integral part of the band’s distinct sound and songwriting. He left the band prior to the release of their third album but helped create their most iconic song, ‘The Distance’. Cause of death is unknown, with statements saying he passed away following an undisclosed illness.
Rock royalty Guns ‘n’ Roses are set to perform at the 2026 bp Adelaide Grand Final Sunday Concert in November. The rock powerhouse takes centre stage for the finale of Australia’s largest domestic motorsport event on 29 November.
