Traditionally a time for Australians to hit the road for a quick holiday, this year we head into the Easter long weekend under the shadow of a global conflict that has caused a mounting fuel crisis and is threatening to cripple the national economy.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s national address did little to quell public concerns about how Australia will manage imminent shortages, instilling little confidence ahead of the long weekend.
Some of you may have reconsidered your travel plans and decided to stay at home while others have set off despite the financial challenges. In either case, you deserve to enjoy a safe and happy holiday.
For the religious among us, many of you will be marking the occasion with services that commemorate the death and rebirth of Jesus Christ in remembrance of his sacrifice. And you should be free to do so without fear of reprisal or discrimination.

Undoubtedly, countless of us will be enjoying our fair share of Easter eggs and a few days off regardless of the turmoil building around us. Australians are expected to spend $62 per person on chocolate in 2026.
Regardless of what is happening in the world, no matter how we choose to celebrate Easter (or not), Australians of every colour, race, and creed should take time to contemplate and reflect on the type of country in which we want to live. We should consider how we treat others and what role we will take in an uncertain future.
Although Australia has become weak as a political power, Australians remain a resilient and adaptive people. We survive and thrive in a harsh and unforgiving environment that breeds excellence in so many forms and fields.
This Easter, remember the sacrifices of people who built this country and fought to make it great; from the ancient cultures, settlers, migrants, and ANZACs that built a nation to the shift workers, nurses, truck drivers and countless others that keep the country moving.
A Happy Easter to you all. Be safe, be sensible, and be eggs-cellent to one another.
