2025 NRL & NRLW Grand Finals
All eyes are set on the Brisbane Broncos NRL and NRLW teams ahead of this weekend’s grand final clashes in Sydney.
The Broncos men’s team faces off against Melbourne Storm after downing four-time champs Penrith Panthers in the semi-finals last weekend. In the NRLW, the Broncos’ women’s team takes on Sydney Roosters, a team that’s been unbeaten and delivered Brisbane their only loss of the season.
It is a momentous occasion for Brisbane league fans having both city teams competing in the finals.
The Lions have already brought home AFL premiership glory for the second year in a row, and now we have the chance to score a rare grand finals trifecta.
Brisbane Broncos and Melbourne Storm last played in a grand final back in 2006, Broncos winning 15-8, the last time they won the premiership. Since then, Storm has taken out the league’s top prize five times, noting however they were stripped of their 2007 and 2009 titles due to salary cap breaches.
The Broncos have performed an incredible comeback over the intervening years to regain top positions in the NRL ladder. In 2023, the Broncos found their way back to the grand finals, losing by only two points against Penrith Panthers.
In the NRLW line-up, the Broncos and Roosters appear evenly matched as Brisbane chases a fourth premiership and Sydney their third. The NRLW grand finals have been dominated by Brisbane Broncos, Sydney Roosters, and Newcastle Knights since the series commenced in 2018, with the Broncos winning the most games.
Brisbane Broncos have defeated Sydney Roosters twice in an NRLW grand final match-up in 2018 and 2020. This year will be the first time Brisbane have competed for a premiership since defeating the Roosters in 2020.
As everyone prepares for the big battle, the NRL are breathing a sigh of relief with confirmation US singing superstar Teddy Swims will be performing at the grand final, having previously cancelled upcoming shows just days prior due to health concerns.
General Manager Media and Communications for the NRL Glenn Jackson says Teddy Swims will “absolutely” be performing at the grand finals, adding: “We’ve been saying for days he’s coming.” Teddy Swims will perform for both the NRLW and NRL games.
Brisbane is on the verge of an Australian football dynasty if both teams can come through with a win at Stadium Australia in Sydney this weekend. There’s a lot riding on these games for Brisbane footy fans, and two games are all that separates them from sporting glory.
